Heritage Park and Cultural Center

Located in Fort Walton Beach, the Heritage Park and Cultural Center is a complex of museums showcasing the area’s history. Visitors can see artifacts from 12,000 BC, the Civil War, and more. It is also home to the Indian Temple Mound and the Camp Walton Schoolhouse Museum. 

The Heritage Park and Cultural Center is open from 12 noon to 4 pm on Tuesday through Saturday. There is a $3 admission fee, including access to all museums. The Heritage Park and Cultural Center are primarily funded by donations and donations from the City of Fort Walton Beach. However, it is also dependent on fundraising events. The Indian Temple Mound Museum is a pre-Colonial indigenous temple mound. It is the oldest museum in Fort Walton Beach. The museum is also home to a replica of a temple and has one of the best collections of prehistoric artifacts in the Southeast. The museum was first opened in 1962. It is located in the Indian Temple Mound Museum building.

The Garnier Post Office Museum is another museum that is located at the Heritage Park and Cultural Center. It was constructed in 1918 and shows visitors the postal history of the area. The museum displays early-20th-century desks and other educational items. It also has a section that explains Florida’s role in the Civil War. The museum also shows visitors how life in Fort Walton Beach changed during the Civil War. The museum is open for group tours. Check this out

The Camp Walton Schoolhouse Museum is a historic building that was originally built in 1911. It was used to educate the children of Camp Walton. It was originally located on Main Street and had a single teacher on site. It was expanded to accommodate grades nine to twelve in the mid-twenties. The museum shows visitors how local education changed during that time. The museum also displays artifacts from local pirates.

The Civil War Exhibits building is another museum that is located at the Heritage park. It features artifacts and dioramas that tell visitors how Florida’s role in the Civil War affected the area. Visitors can also see an 18-pound cannon from Walton guards that was used to defend the area during the Civil War. These museums are open to the public, though some are closed during major holidays.

The Florida Museum of Natural History serves the community by offering group tours and educational field trips. It also offers interactive programs geared toward certain age groups. It also provides on-site educational programming for teachers.
